The Neverland Nursery

PJ’s Nursery

Much like how it happened in real life, there’s been so much going on with PJ’s NICU story on the blog that I haven’t had a chance to put together a post about his nursery. Our to-do list for Memorial Day weekend was “pack hospital bag” and “finish the nursery.” Yeah, thanks to Mr. Early Arrival, neither one happened! We made do without an actual hospital bag, and got his nursery “finished enough” by the time he came home. It’s much closer to done now, and I’m excited to share it with you!

I chose Neverland as the theme for his nursery and for this blog because I love the idea that it can grow with him and there’s so much room for his imagination! I think little boys and pirates go together like peas and carrots – which turned out to be good, because there are NO nursery sets of Peter Pan, but there are a bunch with pirates. And as for the decorations, well, you will see what creative family and friends I have!

My sister-in-law Jenna and my mom put together an amazing Neverland-themed shower for me! It turned out to be just two weeks before PJ arrived, and we had so much fun looking at all the precious outfits and tiny human paraphernalia. Jenna made this awesome driftwood signpost for PJ’s room, pointing out all the different areas of Neverland, and our friend Nan found him the complete cast of Peter Pan to cuddle with:

My next-door-neighbor and friend Danielle made this wall shelf (you can read her blog about it here), which is so handy – we’ll be using this for many years to come for all his little boy things:

About a year ago, my girlfriends and I discovered “Painting With A Twist” (the twist is that it’s a BYOB painting class, how awesome is that?) and my friend Renee took a class and painted this adorable picture for PJ:

Another friend, Adrianna, made these incredible pieces of wall art that hang over PJ’s crib now. We’re going to get together with our little guys on one of my “Mommy & Baby Fridays” for a crafty day, and I will get her to spill the beans on how she did these!

My mom makes really gorgeous quilts, and had already made this one for PJ

when she found this material, which she turned into these adorable custom curtains!

I added this, which I found at a local “bid board”. If you’ve never heard of that, it’s an ongoing silent auction. I will do an entire post on this one day soon, because I have found some REALLY cool things there for bargain prices! As soon as I settled on the Neverland theme, I started keeping an eye out for pieces that would go well with the room, like this:

Yes, that is a pirate ship night light/clock. And the little Peter Pan figures from my shower just give it that little extra touch, don’t you think? This is one of my favorite things I have ever found on my auction scavenger hunts!

There is just one piece missing from the nursery now – I would love to get a large map of Neverland for the wall that faces the door! I have some ideas in the works, so stay tuned for an update on that.
